I’ve done live speaking engagements where people show up, and once they leave, no one can see the event again. The event may create word-of-mouth referrals, but aside from that, they don’t give you residual returns. Which Video Platform Should I Use? Best Video Platform
There are many platforms to post videos online, but the most prominent one is Youtube. As the second largest search engine, Youtube drives a huge amount of website traffic online–that’s why most video marketers choose Youtube as their platform of choice. It’s free. There are lots of users and Youtube will suggest your content to people whose activity suggests they may like what you do.
How do Affiliate Marketers Make Money on Youtube?
Like other blogging and video platforms, there are multiple ways to make money on Youtube. Most video marketers use Youtube as a marketing channel, or a way to meet new potential customers for their products or services, or for their affiliate partners’ products and services. You can:
- Promote your services
- Sell your own products
- Allow ads to play on your videos (once you reach 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours)
- Get brand deals or sponsorships
- Or, you can partner with merchants (people who have products or services) and promote their products or services

To become very successful with video marketing, establish trust, build authority, and convert sales, it’s important to have the right tools. The wrong tools can have you spending lots of time or money without anything to show for it.
Believe me, I’ve done it.
I’ve had computer crashes, lost hours of recorded content, spent hours waiting on videos to upload, done interviews with horrible sound, and the list of my video marketing mistakes goes on and on. I’ve compiled this list of the best video marketing tools for affiliate marketers to prevent you from having the hiccups I did.

I’ve invested in tools that I’m still learning how to use, so I’ll be telling you the list of great tools (even the ones I haven’t fully mastered yet). I’ve broken the tools into 7 categories, so you can get a general idea of what’s needed, and beneath that, I share with you the vendors I recommend.
1. You need Training – Here are The Best Courses to Learn Video Marketing
First, it’s important to learn how to be successful on your video platform of choice. While you can troubleshoot and bump your head alone, your progress can be slow like pouring peanut butter. Hahaha.
Instead, it’s proven that when you have a mentor, partner, or community that specializes in what you’re trying to do, you can be much more effective! It’s like going from 5MPH to 100MPH! You drastically increase the momentum towards your goals.

BenjisDad’s Tube Marketing – For Beginner and Intermediate Level Video Marketers [Specific to Youtube Marketing]

2. You need Market Research Tools – Here are the Best Tools for Market Research
If you want to make money with video marketing, you have to make videos that solve problems for other people. In order to identify what problems internet users are having, you should use tools to validate your ideas. Some market research tools are free and some are paid.
Google, Bing, Pinterest, and Youtube – The Search Engines
Nowadays, many people use Google to make day-to-day decisions. I know I do. They go on and type “cheap dinner ideas”, “holiday gift ideas”, “business startup ideas”, and the list goes on and on. Google is the internet users’ advisor.
Interestingly, Google doesn’t have answers to give the internet users unless bloggers, vloggers, and other content creators fill it with answers–that’s where you and I come in. In order to fill Google with answers, we have to first identify what people are looking for, and you can use Google to see what’s being searched for.
They call the process the alphabet soup technique.
I first heard of the alphabet soup technique while training at Wealthy Affiliate, and it’s a great technique to use to quickly validate keyword ideas (even without an official tool). Essentially, you’re making use of the Google autocomplete function in the search engine.
How the Alphabet Soup Technique Works
Remember for a second your last time using Google. You type in a search term (or “keyword”) and Google will predict what you were going to type. Have you ever asked yourself how are they predicting the rest of what you would type?
Well, the answer is…
They predict the remainder of what you’d type based on what’s frequently searched. Therefore, you can be certain that the terms it predicts are keywords that have recently been searched for. If you decide to use the alphabet soup technique, you’d start with a short keyword and go down the alphabet chronologically to look for the long tail phrases that Google predicts–these would be your keywords.
For example, you can start with a short keyphrase like “How to make money online”, then press space and “a”, and see what it predicts. It should look like this…
Do you see how it autocompleted with terms like:
- as a kid
- at home
- as a teen
- as a college student
- and so on?
These are things internet searchers are likely looking for, and this validates demand.
Pinterest, Youtube, and Bing
Like Google, you can use the alphabet soup technique on Pinterest, Youtube, and Bing because these platforms are also search engines with autocomplete. By using the alphabet soup technique on these other platforms, you’ll be able to see what’s in demand specific to those platforms.
The downside of the alphabet soup technique is that you know the term has recently been searched for, but you won’t know the ongoing demand–that’s where Google Trends may be able to help. With Google Trends, you can type in a topic, name, or phrase, and it will show you the demand over time in a graph. Google Trends isn’t specific and it’s not best to calculate actual search volume, but it can help to validate whether a topic is trending or not.
Google Trends and using the alphabet soup technique are two manual methods you can use if you want to test an idea for free, but Jaaxy is my favorite because it has all of that functionality in one tool. Jaaxy will do the alphabet soup technique for you. It has Google Trends built-in and it’ll help you choose “trending topics”.
Another thing I like about Jaaxy is that you can get an approximate number for how many searches a term gets monthly. You can also glance at the actual search results, see whose ranking for the term you want, and get insight (like # of words in the post, # of backlinks, and Alexa rank) on articles that are currently ranking.
Spyfu helps you to do SEO competitor analysis and paid ads competitive analysis. If you ever wondered if the content ideas you’re choosing are relevant to your niche, then Spyfu can help you to “look under the hood” of other sites in your niche to see their content strategies and learn from templates that are already working. If you want to know more data about how other sites in your niche are performing, how many shares content similar to what you’re considering is getting on social media, or other more advanced analytics, SEMRush can help you. I’d only recommend SEMRush to those who are making money with their businesses because it’s not necessary expense to start generating revenue. The other tools I mentioned are more suitable for market research. SEMRush is the final tool to validate an idea if you’re still uncertain or not confident after using the other tools I mentioned. 3. You need to Script Your Videos – Best Tools for Scripting Videos
Once you’ve validated your video idea, it’s important to “script your video” so all of your ideas are passed on deliberately. Most very successful Youtube channels script their videos. Some scripts are less formal than others, but either way, it’s important to decide how the video is going to flow, and to plan how the topics tie together ahead of time.
Alternatively, you can create a blog post to coincide with the video, and use the blog post as a script for the video. For majority of my videos, I’ve used my blog posts as my script. In some instances, this can work. Sometimes, you can do screen shares where people will be able to see your blog post or demo, but other times, it’s important to show a different angle of view.
It all depends on your audience and what you’re trying to portray. Your analytics will really help you to decide what’s working best.

4. You need a Camera (Duh!) – Here is the Best Camera Equipment for Video Marketing
This is where they say “rubber meets the road”. Hahaha. In other words, now, you’ve gotten your validated idea, your training, and your script, and it’s time now to sit in front of a camera, and film.
A good camera is going to show you with clarity, precision, and portray a high-quality video for your viewers. A bad camera is going to be blurry, have lag time, and will likely, give a bad user experience to watchers.
There are different cameras that work well depending on what style of video you plan to film, so you’ll want to buy accordingly.
Best Camera Equipment for Talking Head
Instead of starting out with the vlog-style videos, I decided to start with talking head videos. In the beginning, I used the built-in camera inside of my Acer computer, but I wouldn’t advise that unless you’re on a very tight budget.
Instead, I’d recommend you start with the Logitech C920. It’s inexpensive and improves the video quality by a lot. You can record video suitable for Youtube and even digital courses! Once you’re confident in video (and your budget expands as people watch), then you can reinvest in a better camera (like the ones that work well for vlogs).
Best Camera Equipment for Vlogs
The vlog-style videos are the ones where the vlogger is walking around, sharing lifestyle and stories in real-time. If you want to do vlog-style videos, then it’s going to be important to have a camera that can tolerate that. Ideally, you want something lightweight, something that attaches to a “selfie stick”, and something with high-quality video that you’ll be able to edit later.
You can use your phone when you’re starting out. I’ve done several videos on my phone and viewers like a quick “mobile” video with short takeaways, however, if you want to focus on this type of video, it’s important to get the gear that works best for that.
Vloggers with channels of various sizes recommend the Canon 7D. I have this camera because I’d like to do vlog-style videos at some point, but I found the editing and training to operate this setup inefficient for my small channel.
I decided to simplify things while I’m starting out so I can build consistency and confidence, then once I start to build momentum, I’ll start focusing more and more on quality–this is a personal choice. You can start out with the 700D and the highest quality possible videos. I didn’t do that because I could see that would make me procrastinate and possibly not post at all.
You do what’s best for you.
5. You need good sound quality – Here is the Best Sound Equipment for Video Marketing
Many people say they can tolerate a blurry video as long as the sound is quality. This makes the sound quality very important (possibly even more important than the image quality!). Therefore, it’s important to invest in good sound equipment.
Best Microphones for Talking Head Videos
I’ve had the Blu Yeti for years now. When I had my first blog, I had a podcast. I used the Blu Yeti for my podcast, and now, I use it for my videos. It’s been a great microphone, and the funny thing is it’s stay relevant as “the industry recommendation” for years. It’s a great microphone to start out with and to grow with. I’ve seen channels large and small who still use this microphone.
Best Microphones for Vlogs
For vlogs where you’re expecting to move around more, it’s important to have a lavalier microphone (unless you decide to have a team carry a larger setup). Lavaliers are small and inexpensive, and make it easy for you to move around and maintain good sound quality.
Best Sound Equipment for Interviews
I’ve even used my Logitech webcam for interviews. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that the sound and video recording software needs to be augmented when doing interviews. I use Zoom meetings for recording the interviews, and I’ve bought a gaming headset to cancel background noise and echo. Here is the one I have.
5. You need good lighting – Here is the Best Lighting
I waited months before investing in lighting because I underestimated the importance. After my revenue increased, I decided to upgrade my original setup, and I took the leap and bought a lighting set.
The lighting made a drastic difference. My 12 year old used to say my videos were bad in comparison to the gamers he watches, but once I got my new webcam and lighting, he said, “Mom, now you look like you’re going pro”. Hahaha.
The lighting helps to separate you from your background, gives you a glow, and makes your videos higher quality. Here are the lighting kits I purchased. The same brand has many upgraded versions you can choose from if you want a more sophisticated setup than I have.
6. You need a background that’s not distracting – Here are the Best Backgrounds for Video Marketing
I’ve seen videos where the vlogger had lots of junk in the background, and it can be distracting! I’ll be thinking, “What’s that?” and focusing more on the background than the theme of the video, and I’m not the only one like that.
It’s important to be intentional about the background of your videos. Included with the light kit I bought were three backgrounds and a stand. I can switch between green screen, white screen, or black screen, but I use the black background most.
If you’re doing vlog-style videos, it’s likely you’ll have live backgrounds from wherever you’re filming, however, if you’re doing talking head videos, it’s going to be important to be intentional about the background. Set up an office or buy a background.
7. At some point, you’ll need to edit videos – Here is the Best Video Editing Software
I don’t currently edit my videos, however, I’ve been taking courses to learn which software options are best and the processes for using them. As a result, I’ll be editing my videos very soon. According to others with very successful channels like BenjisDad and Income School, the best editing software options are:
I actively use Screencastomatic to record my screen share videos–this is what most common on my channel. Inside of Screencastomatic, there are editing options, but I’ve never personally used them. I’ve only recorded my videos and uploaded them using Screencastomatic, and I love using it for that.
Adobe Premiere can be used for basic and advanced-level editing. Professional videographers use Adobe Premiere for advanced video footage, and many very successful Youtubers use it that way as well. One of the greatest benefits of Adobe Premiere is that its compatible with PC or Mac, so it doesn’t matter which computer system you use, you can still edit your videos with Adobe Premiere.
Final Cut Pro
Like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro is also used for basic to advanced level editing. There are many of the same functions in Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro, but the two software give a different user experience. As a result, some people enjoy the experience of editing with Adobe Premiere and others prefer Final Cut Pro. A major con of Final Cut Pro is it’s only compatible with Mac devices, but if that’s not an issue for you, check out Final Cut Pro here.
