If you’re looking for a comprehensive list of the best web hosting companies for small business with an explanation of why, then you’re in the right place.

When you decide to either start a business online or add internet marketing into your strategy for an existing business, one of the first things you have to do is choose a web host. Web hosting is basically the storage for the content you’ll be showing online.

Web hosting is different than normal file storage because you need your content to be presented on-demand to internet users all across the world.  In order to ensure your content is accessible to internet users when they want it, there are special servers that have to store your content. If you’re unfamiliar with how to manage the hosting servers to keep your website live and accessible, then it’s best to pay a hosting service.

Most hosting services are reasonably priced: often starting at less than $10/mo for low traffic and low storage requirements. However, some offer more perks than others. In this post, I’ll be breaking down my opinions on the best web hosting companies for small business.

How I Evaluated These Solutions

Hosting can be quite a sticky subject because there are many big name gurus promoting big hosting conglomerates, and it’s debatable whether they’re promoting them because they offer the highest commission, or whether they truly believe they offer the best hosting service. I explain more about how to choose a good hosting company on my post here. I also explain a basic method I use to identify good and bad hosting companies in that post. The method I used there is the same one I used to evaluate each of these on this list. In this buyer’s guide, I’ll be presenting the best hosting companies based on these factors:

1. Customer Support

Your website can become a major component of your customer acquisition plan, therefore, if anything happens to your website, you want to be able to contact someone fast and get a good response. Some companies are known for keeping you on the phone for hours on end to coordinate basic fixes, and I won’t be recommending any companies like that (regardless of commissions). The companies in this list are known to be highly responsive and to offer very thorough and educated support.

2. Billing

It should be easy to upgrade, downgrade, or discontinue services without hassle or harrassment. Any companies that have a reputation for being difficult to discontinue billing will not be included here.

3. Low Downtime

When you start a website, ideally, you’re trying to get traffic and customers. If you’re website goes down, it defeats the purpose of that. Each of these companies has been tested and proven to have high uptimes (most have higher than 99% most of the time).

4. Fast Site Speeds

Google recommends site owners to have their websites load in less than 3 seconds. If your website loads slow, your visitors are less likely to wait on it to load. As a result, they bounce from your site to another, and high bounce rates have a negative domino effect on your website rankings. Most site owners start with shared hosting and upgrade to VPS, dedicated servers, and cloud hosting as they build their content. The hosting companies on this list have been tested and load very fast when the website content is appropriate for the amount of storage space in their plans.

5. Nice Extra Features

Some hosting companies offer ad credit, some have site health checkers, and some offer training. All of the hosts in this list offer some extra features in addition to the use of their servers.

6. A Monopoly of Customer Satisfaction

Customer satisfaction is a very important factor in this list. I’ve read hundreds of customer reviews on the hosting companies in this list to determine what customers like and what they don’t like. The companies in this list have a wide margin of positive customer reviews on third party websites like TrustPilot, G2Crowd, ShopperApproved, Yelp, Youtube, and the Google search results. Any companies with lots of dissatisfied customers will not be listed here.

7. Great Third-Party Reviews from Customers and Experts

While third-party reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt, I did read third party reviews to get a general consensus of what was being said. The hosting companies in this list had a monopoly of positive feedback from third-party reviewers and experts.

8. There are no Major Safety Breaches or Violations

Some hosting companies have been known to host lots of spammers and even terrorist organization websites! When spammers and terrorists are sharing hosting in a single server, it negatively impacts your mail deliverability and the safety of the content you store there.

You could end up getting hacked, having your personal or customers’ privacy violated, or even losing alot of money when your site gets infected and is no longer live. The hosting companies on this list have been known to be very proactive about website security, so there are very few occasions of sites being hacked or other security issues.

If You’re Looking for For Managed WordPress Hosting Solutions

If you don’t feel comfortable with as many of the technical features, managed WordPress hosting may work better for you.

Who is Managed WordPress Hosting for?

Managed WordPress hosting is best for:

  • Those who don’t mind paying a little extra for less technical hassle
  • Those who want to offload the technical components of Website management to an expert team
  • Those who are confused or dislike dealing with C-Panel
  • Those who want a more user friendly alternative to the normal C-Panel interface
  • Those who want an easier and simpler process for WordPress installation

1. Wealthy Affiliate (#1 Top Pick for Startup to Intermediate Online Entrepreneurs)

Wealthy Affiliate stands out because they are a superb hosting company as well as an amazing internet marketing training platform, and a highly engaged community. This option is perfect for people who want to make money online, expand their businesses online, and network and learn with others that have similar goals.

best web hosting companies for small businessWho is this best for

  • People who want to install WordPress very easily
  • Those who want 1-on-1 marketing coaching
  • Those who want to interact with an engaged community of peers who are growing online
  • Those who want to learn how to get good rankings in search engines
  • Those who want to learn social media marketing
  • Those who want to learn various ways to monetize their websites
  • Those who want a free SSL certificate
  • Those who want lots of extra features (including 1-on-1 coaching and live Q&A’s)
  • Those who need up to 30 GB of storage and bandwidth to support up to 500K visitors/mo

What They Offer

  • Stable pricing – No changes made in nearly 15 years (even while adding lots more features)!
  • 30GB of website storage space
  • Enough bandwidth to withstand 500,000K website visitors/mo
  • Unlimited email boxes and forwarders
  • Canada-based servers
  • 24/7 Canada-based in-house support
  • Reseller hosting
  • A custom control panel
  • Great customer support
  • SiteContent
  • SiteFeedback
  • SiteComments
  • Weekly training with live Q&A
  • 1000’s of hours of recorded training
  • A social media style community so you can network with other entrepreneurs
  • 1-on-1 private message coaching (with premium membership)
  • Lots of student success stories for you to read for encouragement

What They are Missing

  • They don’t currently offer dedicated servers
  • They have training on how to improve site speed, but they don’t fix the errors for you
  • They teach you how to prevent security breaches and they have a staff that monitors the servers proactively, but if something happens and your site still gets malware, they don’t fix issues of that sort. Instead, they’d recommend you hire an alternative service for help with that.
  • No separate login for client hosting accounts
  • No reseller billing options

Wealthy Affiliate has a monopoly of positive reviews, however, there are also negative ones. The positive reviewers range from those who started as complete newbies and have made millions as a result of the training and support, to those who are making their first dollars online. There are loads of success stories about great customer support, great website performance, enjoyment of the platform, and incomes going up.

The negative reviews are mostly from people who didn’t get the income results they expected. Often times, people will go to Wealthy Affiliate with expectations similar to get rich quick schemes and become disappointed when they’re not making alot of money with minimal effort.

Another common complaint about Wealthy Affiliate is regarding their huge army of avid advocates. The affiliates and Wealthy Affiliate customers have made many people aware of hundreds of online scams by writing reviews. Some companies (especially product owners who created low-quality products that have been reviewed) strongly dislike the Wealthy Affiliate community as a result of their proactive approach to keeping the internet clean of scams. While sometimes, I’ve found WA members who right unjustified negative reviews, often it’s from newbies who are learning how to deliver objective reviews, and not representative of even 10% of the overall outcome of the platform.

How to Get Started

To get started with Wealthy Affiliate, you’d simply CREATE YOUR FREE ACCOUNT HERE, try out the platform and free features, and decide if upgrading is a good fit for you. No billing information is required, so it’s the lowest risk website hosting platform to try.

2. Kinsta (For Intermediate to Advanced Online Entrepreneurs)

Kinsta hosts many websites with very high traffic. Sites like Intuit Quickbooks, TurboTax, Mint.com, Trip Advisor, and others have been well taken care of by the reliable, stable, and knowledgeable staff and infrastructure at Kinsta.

kinsta review | kinsta homepage

Who is this Best For

I’d recommend Kinsta for customers who are looking for:

  • WordPress website hosting
  • reliability
  • scalability
  • high uptime
  • fast loading times
  • and, fast and knowledgeable support…

If these are the things you’re looking for in a web host, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you try Kinsta out. As an added benefit, Kinsta offers a 30-day money back guarantee, prorated refunds, and free site migration, so you can try out the services with fairly low risk. If you’re interested in testing it out, you can try Kinsta by going here.

What They Offer

  • They’re powered by the Google Cloud Platform – The same platform that powers Google and Youtube!
  • They host websites that drive millions of monthly viewers (like Intuit)
  • They have a 30-day money back guarantee and prorate refunds
  • There is no fee for upgrading or downgrading your plan at any time
  • Free site migrations
  • They won’t shut down your website if you get high volumes of traffic to it (like many other hosts will)
  • Uptime checks every 2 minutes
  • Full backups every day
  • A staging area for updates without them being visible to the public
  • Automatic scaling when you have traffic surges
  • Free hack prevention and fixing
  • A CDN is included with your membership at no additional cost
  • You’ll have access to the features and tools that come with C-Panel and Plesk (phpMyAdmin, redirects, logs, SFTP, and backups are all one click away), but they’ll be presented on Kinsta’s friendlier user interface

What are they Missing

  • They don’t host other content management systems aside from WordPress
  • They don’t provide training for those who are unfamiliar with how to effectively use the internet for customers and sales
  • For many people, their price will be a disadvantage. They are more expensive than shared hosting alternatives (without add-ons or upgrades). Instead, they include many add-ons that wouldn’t be included in basic shared hosting plans (like a security socket layer or “SSL” and distribution of your content on a Content Delivery Network) as a part of their standard packaging. They also offer 2 months free when you go annual, no increased pricing in consecutive years, a higher level of performance and support. When you factor in what’s offered, then you’ll find their pricing to be very modest in comparison to the market.

The pricing plans at Kinsta break down like this…

There is an obvious monopoly of positive reviews of Kinsta on Google and from customers. They even have case studies from customers who report their satisfaction with the services here.

How to Get Started

To get started with Kinsta, you’d choose your plan, set up your account, and they’ll migrate your websites for free. You can get started by visiting here.

What They Offer

  • Stable pricing — No changes made in 9 years!

  • Great customer support
  • High levels of customer satisfaction
  • C-Panel hosting and a custom control panel alternative
  • Lots of comparisons from real customers proving their faster than most other hosts on the market
  • A blog and knowledge base

What They are Missing

  • Training on how to be successful getting exposure online – There’s no training on SEO, search engine marketing, social media marketing, or paid ads
  • They don’t offer marketing support – Instead, you’d have to invest in alternative coaching programs or courses

Prices range contingent on how much storage and bandwidth you require. Here is a breakdown on the prices of their shared hosting:

best web hosting companies for small businesses

Bigscoots has a large monopoly of positive reviews. In fact, after 9 years in business, they are still yet to have negative reviews! Customers appreciate the increased speed they notice when switching to Bigscoots. They talk about how friendly, fast, and knowledgeable the support staff is, and they’re able to recommend friends, family, and clients who come back and thank them for a great recommendation.

How to Get Started

To get started with BigScoots, you pick your plan, register your domain (or migrate a previously owned one), install your content management system, and begin customizing the site.

For more information on BigScoots, check out their website here, or read my full Bigscoots review here.

4. FlyWheel

Flywheel is a fast-growing hosting company whose main focus is on supporting web designers and marketing agencies. They offer a very fun and simple user interface that many customers appreciate In addition, they also offer lots of site collaboration features for digital teams, and technical support so agencies don’t lose time doing that.

best hosting companies for small business

Who is this best for

  • Freelancers who need to set up client sites and offload them once completed
  • Web design agencies
  • High-traffic websites
  • Marketing agencies
  • Those that are willing to pay more than my #1 or #2 recommendation for their interface design, support, and unique Flywheel experience

What They Offer

  • WordPress website hosting
  • Managed servers
  • Reseller hosting
  • Reseller invoicing
  • A Customized environment for WordPress sites
  • Collaboration and administrative access controls so you control how much access customers and team mates have: editing permissions, viewing permissions, etc.
  • Staging environments and setup (for when you need to use it)
  • A custom control panel (instead of C-Panel)

What They are Missing

  • They don’t have a C-Panel option (for those that prefer to use C-Panel)
  • Competitively priced options
  • Hosting for other content management systems
  • Marketing training or support
  • They don’t offer email addresses or host email, so you’d be required to look into something like GSuite

best hosting companies for small businesses

Reviewers of Flywheel are very excited about the design and user interface. They appreciate their customer support. Many agencies that use Flywheel appreciate how easy it is to set up sites, install WordPress, add collaborators, bill clients, and offload accounts to their own individual plans.

Negative reviews suggest that the prices aren’t competitive enough in the market, some customers don’t like the stipulations they have on which plugins you can/cannot use, and there’s no C-Panel option for those who want CRM, forum, or other content management options aside from WordPress.

How to Get Started

To get started with Flywheel, you set up your free account so you can explore their dashboard, you migrate your website, and begin customizing.

For more information on Flywheel, check out their website here, or read my full Flywheel Hosting review here.

If You’re Looking for C-Panel Hosting

C-Panel hosting is the most traditional form of web hosting, and this list is the best I’ve found (based on the criteria listed above).

Who is C-Panel Hosting For?

  • If you’re looking for a web host that can store WordPress websites as well as Drupal, Joomla, and other content management systems, then you want a C-Panel hosting solution.
  • On most occasions, I recommend WordPress, but for some people that want special forums, customer relations management, or other special options, they may want to use a different content management system, and you’d need a C-Panel hosting solution for that.
  • Those who want to host lots of websites for a low cost
  • Those who feel comfortable with technical components like FTP, File Manager, Content Management Installations, etc.

1. BigScoots Hosting

BigScoots is also a great option if you want C-Panel access. They offer both managed WordPress hosting with a custom C-Panel and other options where you could access the traditional C-Panel.  They’re my #1 recommendation if you want to install an alternative content management system other than WordPress or if you want C-Panel access.

For more information on Bigscoots, check out their website here, or read my full Bigscoots review here.

2. A2 Hosting

A2 Hosting has been in the industry since the early 2000’s and has maintained a great reputation as a reliable, high performance, and awesome service web host. They have high customer satisfaction ratings and raving reviews on thord party sites all over the internet.

Unfortunately, there have been quite a few customers that decide to switch from A2 to Wealthy Affiliate or Bigscoots because of their competitive advantages. In fact, Bigscoots has a public page where you can see how the performance of the websites improved when migrating from A2 to Bigscoots, so if you’re in the market for hosting and you’re torn between A2 and BigScoots, choose BigScoots!

Alternatively, if you’re uncomfortable with my #1 or #2 recommendations, A2 is a solid alternative.

best hosting companies for small business

Who is this best for

  • Those who want C-Panel access
  • Beginners up into Advanced website owners
  • Those who want reliable and fast uptimes and load speeds
  • Those who want highly responsive US-based customer support
  • Those who want affordable pricing

What They Offer

  • Shared, VPS, Dedicated servers, managed and unmanaged servers
  • Very responsive customer support
  • A knowledge base
  • Competitive pricing
  • Low introductory rates
  • Reseller hosting
  • Reseller WHMC invoicing

What They are Missing

  • A non-C-Panel alternative
  • Marketing training or support for those who are uncertain how to get the most from the internet
  • An alternative so prices don’t have to go up after the first term

best hosting companies for small businesses

A2 has many raving reviews from customers who have become advocates. They talk about their good experiences with customer service, website performance, and switching from other hosts. It’s actually very difficult to find complaints about this company. The worse thing I heard about A2 is that their uptime ranged between 99.1% and 99.9% which is still very good.

How to Get Started

To get started with A2, you would pick your plan, register or migrate your domain, install your content management system of choice, and begin customizing your site.

For more information on A2 Hosting, check out their website here, or read my full A2 Hosting review here.

3. Siteground

Siteground has grown to be a very popular Europe-based hosting solution. They are independently owned, competitively priced, and generally known for high performance. Unfortunately, they’re also well known for raising their prices more than 100% from the introductory price to the terms following, so many people get frustrated when it comes time to renew their subscriptions and the price is significantly higher than what they’ve ever paid.

If you decide to go with Siteground, it’s best to choose longer terms (especially your first one), however, if you want low and stable pricing, I’d recommend you pick my #1 or #2 recommended hosting companies.

best web hosting companies for small businesses

Who is this best for

  • Those looking for a budget-friendly alternative to some of the bigger name companies
  • Those who want reliable service
  • Those who are okay with the price increases after their introductory terms
  • Those who want good customer support

What They Offer

  • Servers on multiple continents — Perfect for international customers
  • Shared, VPS, and dedicated servers
  • 24/7 International-based support
  • Responsive customer service
  • Very low introductory pricing

What They are Missing

  • Custom C-Panel option
  • Marketing support and training
  • Highly involved technical support
  • The “personal” know your-customers by name feel
  • Stable pricing

Siteground has very low introductory pricing, but don’t forget to look for the renewal pricing because when you’re plan ends, this is what you’ll be paying!

best web hosting companies for small business

Siteground reviewers were a little more mixed than my previous recommendations. Most customers of Siteground were very happy with the service. They were happy with their site performance, the customer service, and the overall experience with Siteground. Most negative reviewers were upset about the renewal pricing and there were some customer service diputes, but the clear monopoly was slanted where you could tell Siteground is a great hosting provider.

How to Get Started

To get started with Siteground, you pick your plan, set up your billing, register or migrate your domain, and begin customizing your site.

For more information on Siteground, check out their website here, or read my full Siteground Hosting review here.

4. InMotion Hosting

Like A2 Hosting, InMotion is an industry veteran. They have a long time reputation for outstanding customer service, great performance, very affordable pricing, and lots of nice features.

best web hosting companies for small businesses

Who is this best for

  • Those who are looking for a budget friendly host
  • Those who feel most comfortable with longstanding businesses
  • Those looking for good customer service
  • Those who want a hosting company that can host many different content management systems

What They Offer

  • US-based in-house support
  • Responsive customer service by phone, email, and live chat
  • C-Panel hosting
  • Shared, VPS, and dedicated servers
  • Knowledgeable staff
  • A large knowledge base and customer support forum

What They are Missing

  • Marketing training or support
  • Proof of superior performance in comparison to their competitors on this list
  • A C-Panel Alternative for those who feel uncomfortable with C-Panel

best web hosting for small businessReviews

InMotion hosting has a clear monopoly of positive reviews because they offer superior performance and features than majority of the hosting companies in the industry. Their customers appreciate the performance, customer support, and the tutorials they have in their knowledge base.

On the downside, InMotion does’t have servers in other countries or marketing support or training if you don’t know SEO, search engine marketing, social media marketing, or paid ads.

How to Get Started

To get started with InMotion, you have to pick your plan, set up your billing, register your domain or migrate your existing site, set up your content management system, and begin customizing youur site.

For more information on InMotion Hosting check out their website here, or read my full InMotion Hosting review here.

Popular C-Panel Hosting Alternatives

Click on any of these links to see my reviews on any of these popular hosting alternatives:

>>>>See all of my web hosting reviews here.

Why The Popular Options Aren’t Listed as the Best

While I did review many popular options to consider whether they would be eligible to be in this list, all of the popular options I found fell short in one area or another: security, customer service, service quality, customer satisfaction, third-party reviews, or otherwise. You can check any of the individual reviews to see the specific shortcomings that stopped them from being listed here.

What the Market is Saying

According to Google Trends, you can see how this list pans out in terms of which service people are searching for the most. Siteground is the most popular solution being searched for online with InMotion Hosting in 2nd place, Wealthy Affiliate in 3rd, A2 Hosting in 4th, and BigScoots in 5th:

When we add in FlyWheel, it looks more like this…

Quick note: As of this writing, you can only compare 5 trends at once, which is why I did this chart separate.

If you go based on what the market is searching for, you could end up with the hosting company with the biggest marketing budget rather than the best quality service. In fact, let’s compare the industry leaders in this space with my #1 recommendation:

GoDaddy is the clear leader in terms of people searching for their service or talking about their service online, but they’re not on my list of recommended hosting companies.

The Bottom Line on the Best Web Hosting Companies for Small Business

Wealthy Affiliate and BigScoots are my top two recommended hosting companies. Most people will require marketing training or support along the way, so even if you’re hosted elsewhere, I’d recommend you at least have a lifetime free membership at Wealthy Affiliate. For free, you can get two free websites, ten free training lessons on Internet Marketing, and lifetime access to a huge social media-style community. For premium members, you’d also get live training with Q&A weekly, 1-on-1 coaching, and access to inbox anyone in the community. If you feel like you don’t need Internet Marketing training, coaching, or support, and you require more than 30GB of storage, or bandwidth for more than 500,000K pageviews per month, then you should go to my #2 recommendation: Bigscoots.

Bigscoots has the full gamut of hosting options for all traffic levels and stellar customer and technical support. They have C-Panel options if you prefer to install alternative CMS, they have reseller hosting, and invoicing software if you decide to use their hosting as a reseller for your own hosting business.

Aside from my #1 and #2 recommended options, sometimes people will prefer the other options because of their collaborator options, previous experience, familiarity, because they’ve heard good things from more than one person, or because of sales or pricing perks–it’s ultimately up to you to decide what’s best for your business. All of these web hosts are good options, I have listed these chronologically based on the 8 criteria I listed above.

The hosts that are popular yet are not on this list, I would recommend you stay away from, however, if you are currently with one of them and you’re not having problems, then stay put. It’s most important that you focus on growing your traffic and conversions than to switch hosting if you’re not having any problems. Keep this post in mind if you ever find you’re having customer support issues, speed issues, downtime, security, or something of the sort.
