If you’re looking for a thorough eVoice review, you’re in the right place. Here, you’ll get pros, cons, and alternatives, so you can decide if eVoice is a good fit for you.

There’s a sweet spot in business where your service is in high demand and there’s a lot of sales potential–that’s a good spot to be in, but it’s fragile. In that time, you can either absorb all of the potential, make lots of sales, explode your income, scale and grow your business, or you can flop. If you’re not careful, it can be pretty easy to flop. You could:

  • Not respond to phone calls
  • Provide bad customer support
  • Be irresponsive to feedback
  • and, stay unengaged with your supporters

Then, customers would have a bad perception of your brand (and maybe even your intentions). I’ve seen it happen quite a bit where a well-intentioned company turns sour because they didn’t plan to have a good communication system in place to carry some of the weight of their growth.

That’s why I think it’s important to have good phones, good answering systems, good CRM, and all of the tools you need to coordinate communication with your team, your vendors, and your customers.

If you’re communication is bad with a major component of your operations, it can really mess things up for you.

eVoice is one such communication solution, so I’m excited to provide this review for you.  In this eVoice review, I will give you:

  • What it is
  • How it works
  • Pros and Cons
  • What it does well and what it does not
  • What others are saying (good and bad)
  • My Recommendation
  • And, Alternatives (in case you want to do some comparison shopping)

What is eVoice? An Overview

evoice review

eVoice is a VOIP small business phone service. They offer solutions such as:

  • A business phone number
  • Toll free phone numbers
  • Auto-attendant
  • Call queuing
  • and others…

Here’s a full breakdown of the features they offer:

evoice reviewBackStory on eVoice

Evoice is owned by J2Media Inc. They’re the brand owners of several notable brands including these…

evoice reviewJ2Media Inc. started out of frustration in 1994 by a German rock musician named Jaye Muller. Jaye had a problem sending and recieving faxes while he was on the road, so he decided to try to make a solution. In partnership with Jack Reiley, Jaye made a solution to send and recieve faxes online.

They decided to start a company to offer the online fax service to others, and Jfax was born.  In 1999 Jfax went public, and the name was changed to J2. The company began branching into other verticals beyond faxing, and today, they own several brands including eVoice.

How Does eVoice Work?

So let’s use this scenario…

You start a business. You’ve started to do marketing and sales, and you figure out a marketing plan that works.

Suddenly, you’re getting lots of calls and you’re a one-man show. You decide you have to make some changes to your communication system because:

  • You’re not as productive as you’d like because you’re starting work and consistently interrupted by phone calls
  • You don’t feel quite ready to hire someone (or you may hire someone in addition to solving this problem)
  • You have more calls than you can answer
  • Your personal phone calls and business phone calls are getting mixed up
  • You don’t always have time to go back and listen to voicemails, but you want to know what they say
  • You want to do webinars, demos, and screenshare presentations sometimes
  • You’d like to have more context before answering a call, so you can prioritize based on which calls are most important
  • You want to be able to answer your business calls from your office or on-the-go
  • and, you need faxing capabilities

At this point, eVoice offers a potential solution for you. With eVoice, you would be able to leverage technology which could cut back on labor costs. Rather than feeling swamped and consistently interrupted with phone calls.

eVoice serves as an answering system (with the auto attendant). Callers would each be greeted with a custom message you could set that could be spoken by the built-in computer voice, you can hire a professional voiceover artists thru eVoice, or you can upload audio that you’ve recorded elsewhere (like thru Fiverr).

After the personal greeting, customers would be placed on hold where they’d hear hold music, custom messaging, or a combination you’ve recorded.

When you answer the phone call, the auto attendant will announce the context of the call based on the extension the person selected, and you can accept or reject the call based on its importance to your business.

How Do I Get Started with eVoice?

Of all of the VOIP services I’ve signed up for (which is everyone I’ve reviewed), eVoice is the easiest to get started.

1. Create your Free Trial Account

To get started with eVoice, you CREATE YOUR 30-DAY FREE TRIAL ACCOUNT.

2. Follow the Prompts to Customize your Account

eVoice will direct you to set up your preferences like:

  • Where you’d like your eVoice number forwarded
  • What email you’d like to receive your voicemail
  • What scripts you want the auto attendant to say
  • and more…

3. Download the Mobile app

You can call out and recieve calls on your mobile devices when you’ve downloaded the mobile apps. As a result, you can seamlessly answer phone calls from any device whether you’re in the office or on-the go.

4. Begin Use

Once you’ve set everything up, you’re ready to get started sending and recieving phone calls.

Who is eVoice For?

eVoice is for:

  • Professionals who want to give a good image
  • Businesses who are getting very swamped and want to be able to prioritize phone calls
  • Those who want to separate their personal communication from business
  • Those who want a simple interface to listen to recorded calls, check voicemails, read trancribed voicemails, and modify their greetings (maybe for sales or otherwise)
  • Professionals who want to answer their business calls from their offices and while they’re on the go
  • Those who want features like audio conferencing, web conferencing, screenshare, and faxing

eVoice Tools & Training

eVoice has training tutorials (knowledge-base style and some video) so you’ll be able to set the system up.

eVoice Support

eVoice offers phone, email, and live chat support for customers and potential customers.

What Does eVoice Do Well

  • They offer alot of features
  • They’re affordable
  • They offer auto receptionists and live receptionists
  • It’s easy to set up
  • Most VOIP providers require you hire professional greeters or record the greeting on your own, so it’s nice eVoice offers a computer voice option
  • The professional greeter option is very affordable
  • The user interface is easy to use
  • The system sounds very professional–I’ve gotten lots of compliments on my eVoice setup
  • They trascribe the voicemail to email or text
  • They send the audio files of recorded calls and voicemails to your email (if you configure it that way in your settings)

What Doesn’t eVoice Do Well

  • From my experience, the support wasn’t knowledgeable. When I called to ask about the phone service features, they put me on hold for a long time.
  • They don’t have any plans with unlimited minutes
  • They don’t integrate with CRM
  • I personally thought the computer voice sounded fine, but other customers said the computer voice sounds robotic, and recommended the professional greeting option for $25 (inside eVoice)
  • They don’t have an option to buy or rent compatible cloud phones

eVoice Review Roundup

I searched around to have a balanced perspective of the strengths and limitations of eVoice for you. Here’s what I was able to find…

Common Positive Feedback

  • The system works great
  • Good customer support
  • Their constantly improving the app
  • Features are easy to use
  • It’s reliable
  • Customer service is great
  • Very attractive design
  • Employees like it
  • Attractive price

Negative Feedback

Negative feedback was uncommon to find, however, here’s a compilation of negative feedback I found:

  • The voicemail transcription isn’t always accurate
  • The interface could be more intuitive
  • One customer said that the mobile app uses cell phone service so when there’s no cell phone coverage, it doesn’t work
  • It could have more options and configurations
  • Would like to recieve paid phone calls
  • You have to call to cancel and some customer reviews said they had difficulty cancelling

Most Helpful Positive eVoice Review

A customer on FitSmallBusiness wrote this review:

What does the company do well?
We have a long period using this application we have found fascinating, our employees like it and we consider that it has a good price.

What does the company not do well?
In all this time we have found some faults but they have been able to resolve and the company behind the program has managed to finish them, we are very happy to use this product.

What do you wish you had known about the company before using?
That your company was so diligent with its application, there are usually many applications whose companies leave them forgotten and do not make any kind of change, unlike this one that has managed to fix your product.

Most Helpful Negative eVoice Review

A reviewer on virtualphonesystems.com said:

“You have to call them up to cancel the account. Unbelievable. And guess what? They don’t even answer!”

eVoice Price

The prices for eVoice breakdown like this:

evoice review

Addon Features

  • Online faxing ($1.95/mo)
  • Video Conferencing (starting at $9.95/mo for 100 min.)
  • Web Conferencing (combined with video conferencing)
  • Call recording ($8.95/month for automated recording)
  • and others

The addon features are paid in addition to your monthly price.

My Final Opinion of eVoice

I have personally tested out eVoice and I was impressed. When I had people call my eVoice line, they thought it sounded very professional, and would give them a good impression of a company. I think the features and user interface are very easy to use, and of all the VOIP companies I’ve tried so far, they seem to be the easiest to set up, and a low price to get started. Many other companies will require you to fork out additional costs for the voiceover work, while eVoice has the computer voice option you could use. If you’re considering VOIP small business phone services, I think you should SIGN UP FOR THE 30-DAY FREE TRIAL and see if it works for you.

Top Alternatives

While Evoice is my personal favorite VOIP small business phone service. The market shows there are options that are more popular. Check out the trends and the reviews of other alternatives (listed below), so you can decide which is the best fit for your company.

I think it’s important for young businesses to portray a professional feel to their business. People are really skeptical of new businesses that’s why I recommend a high level of professionalism for new start ups. I think eVoice would serve new startups effectively especially with the price it comes at and it’s really good you can check out the product before you pay by signing up for the free 30 days trial.

    Thanks for sharing

It seems like eVoice is great for those in that fine middle of expanding their business but not so much to the point to where they need to hire those to answer phone calls. From reading this article, it seems like eVoice’s niche is more in that transitional phase between sole proprietor and multiple expansion. This would be something considered a stepping stone for me when I get to that level. Upon reading this review I’m elated to see there is a solution for a potential problem for the busier proprietor unable to answer every call in a punctual amount of time.

Hello Todd! I think my example is swaying you to your conclusion. I’d say eVoice is probably suitable for small and mid-size businesses. Regardless of size, it’s healthy to leverage technology, so even as you hire administrative staff, it would still be helpful to have a system like eVoice to keep labor costs down.

Thanks for sharing this information. I haven’t heard about evoice not until I read this post and reading this I think I will download the app and create an account because this will make for easier communication with my customers. This will make my business more easier. Thanks for bringing this to my notice.

Hi Tiffany! Thank you for reviewing eVoice.

Yes, I agree with you. When a business is in a good spot, it’s so easy to flop.

And having a platform as eVoice is a key move. I really liked all what you have said concerning this company. And I’ll create a Free Trial Account!

I appreciate you have listed the cons. My main concern is having difficulty to cancel.

I’ll test the platform this month and then decide. Thank you very much!

    1. Tiffany Denise

Hello Henry, I understand why you would have that concern. I have an eVoice account and I didn’t like hearing that customers had trouble cancelling. From my experience, the customer service has been very receptive, so hopefully, that was just subjective experiences.

  5. Tiffany Denise

Tiffany I love they way you have come with that eVoice  I live in Dubai and their service is not yet here, but that said and done, I love what they’re offering for medium and small business so that they attain their full potential! Please keep doing the good work until we all the services like eVoice.

  6. Tiffany Denise

Thank you for this thorough review. Customer service is very challenging when you are building your business. It’s very difficult when you’ve started for a while and it’s getting busy, but you cannot afford to hire someone to answer your calls just yet. This will be perfect for my friend who has a printing business. She mostly does the labor and cannot focus on finishing up the projects. I will tell her to give the eVoice free trial a try.

    1. Tiffany Denise

It is a difficult dilemma Nuttanee! I’d be so happy if this option works for her. That’s an overwhelming spot to be in, and hopefully this will help her.

  7. Tiffany Denise

Some time back, I came across eVoice but I did not bother more about it as I didn’t have a well-detailed review like the one I have just read. To start with, I am an active member of the wealthy affiliate, and at times I get compressed by frequent emails and even calls from some clients who need more explanation on different categories. I sometimes find it hard but I still have to answer all the calls and even the emails. I think I am very lucky to have come across this post today because I have learned a lot from it.

I am sure to create an eVoice account right away as I am sure by having it, it will reduce the pressure I get from clients without necessarily hiring someone to respond, I think this will save me on cost and efficiency. I really appreciate your help on this post, thank you.

    From Joy.

Thanks for sharing this informative article.

I’m glad something like this is being talked about. There are some little problems that we always neglect as nothing but eventually can crumble a business. Communication is part of those problems. To be honest, I do get upset whenever I wanna make inquiries about a product or complained and there is no quick or no response at all. That always always leaves me with bad or hard feelings about the company of customers neglect.

This eVoice is gonna go a long way in tackling that problem.

Nice one author. Many thumbs up for you

  10. Tiffany Denise

Hello Tiffany, the review is great. When it comes to managing success in business, one needs to take care of certain things as the things we often take for granted are the things that really matter. Like you rightly said, a business that is thriving can easily flop within a twinkle of an eye when certain things are neglected, like inability to respond to phone calls (like you rightly said), poor customer support and a lot more.I know some people that contract people from platforms like fiver, Upwork, freelance etc to act as virtual assistant to them. These virtual assistants handle both data entry, calendar, calls for such people. The evoice is another great way through which a boss can respond faster to his customers, without pissing them off. evoice auto attendant feature, makes it to stand out.

    1. Tiffany Denise

Hello Gracen! You’re right that virtual assistants are an option if a person were in the situation I described. I would recommend putting an autoattendant or answering system in place before hiring a virtual assistant because it keeps labor costs down. If the answering system is still not enough, then hire, and the answering system can still help prioritize calls and maintain a professional image. That’s my opinion.

  11. Tiffany Denise

    Hello Tiffany,

eVoice is a product that all those companies that take care of communication with their clientele must have. Many times we can not attend an incoming call I think that today communications have advanced a lot. It is very important to properly attend to all our customers.

Excellent review thank you very much! Regards! Claudio

  12. Tiffany Denise

This was very helpful, and I really appreciate the candor regarding the pros and cons, and suitable alternatives.  I particularly appreciated the fact that you provided information regarding the company behind eVoice. That’s typically the first question I ask before I make a commitment to a system or product I’ve not heard of before (been burned too many times before).

Speaking of which, how is the general voice quality?  I was a very early adopter of VOIP, back when it frankly wasn’t very good, so am very sensitive to voice quality!

    1. Tiffany Denise

Jon, I’ve listened to calls from my eVoice account and I’ve listened to recordings of my calls on other devices. I’ve had no trouble with voice quality, and I haven’t seen customers complain about that. Great question! Thanks for asking.
