If you’re looking for a list of high income skills to help you take better control of your financial security, you’re in the right place. Here, we’ll be discussing 15 high income skills and where you can learn them!

The workforce is changing. Job security is no longer as safe of a bet. It’s important for each person to secure their own future by developing skills that are valuable to the marketplace, and that translate well into a job, a business, a side hustle, or as a freelancer.

What are High Income Skills

Dan Lok is a leading business consultant whose broadcasted the concept of acquiring a high-paying skill as the entry-way into starting a business and becoming wealthy. According to Lok, a high income skill is:

A skill that can make you a minimum of $10,000 per month, which is a healthy six-figure income. A high-income skill is a skill that delivers value to the marketplace, that you can charge a lot of money to deliver.

High income skills enable you to work independently because the demand is sufficient to replace a job. A high income skills offers more financial security than a job because:

  • You can control your prices
  • You can control your income
  • You can have more schedule flexibility and pick the times you’ll work
  • and, You can choose to work with a broad pool of customers or a narrow one

Of course, you can’t forget this quote by Sam Walton that says:

There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.

So, you’ll have to keep your pricing, schedule, and customer qualification standards in context with the market, but a high income skill can give you alot of flexibility and enjoyment because you participate in the process, whereas, most jobs will control your pay and pay increases.

Statictics on Job Security

high income skills

Added to the flexibility of a high-paying skill, Forbes contributed to the discussion on the change of job security by illustrating with this story. They said:

Picture a newly-minted MBA – a finance specialist who earns more than $120,000 per year, working just over 50 hours a week. Not a bad gig, right? Except he’s not working on Wall Street (where he’d be putting in far longer hours) or at a Fortune 500 company. Instead, he was Jacob Morgan’s Uber driver on a recent San Francisco trip.

Employees who want to go up the pay scale to achieve more than middle class must take on lots of responsibility, typically that comes with long hours, and they can still abruptly lose their job without regard to their performance. Employees lose their jobs for reasons like:

  • Poor management of the company finances (even if the employee had no connection with the financial management)
  • The company found someone with comparable skills in a lower cost of living economy
  • Technology replaces many of the duties
  • Or, even the “good ole boy system” causes them to replace a hard-working employee with an “inner circle buddy”

Whereas, there’s a growing number of opportunities for people of all skill levels to work independently and get paid very well. All of this contributes to stats gathered by Pew Research like:

  • 6 in 10 adults (63%), believe there is less job security today than it was 20-30 years ago
  • 80% of American respondents say outsourcing jobs overseas is a threat to American jobs
  • 77% say foreign products sold in the US is a threat to American jobs
  • and, 70% say the internet and technology is a threat to US jobs

Why High-Paying Skills are a Better Route

High-paying skills are the best way to ensure your financial security. If you develop skills that are valuable enough to the marketplace that people are willing to pay high prices, it can eliminate a lot of financial uncertainty that other people have to deal with at some point or another.

But, you might be asking, “what are high-paying skills?”. Having high paying skills means you’ve mastered a trade or activity that people pay very well for. Here is list of 15 high income skills to give you some ideas:

1. Lead Generation

Lead Generation is quite a broad category. It includes any skill that helps businesses to get more customers. This includes:

    • Paid ad management
    • Paid ad setup
    • Search engine optimization
    • Social media marketing
    • Promotional Product advertising consulting
    • Marketing consulting
    • Sales
  • and, any other activities that can attract customers for businesses

2. Internet Marketing

high income skills | internet marketing

Internet marketing overlaps alot with lead generation because it’s a smaller subset of it. Internet marketing is the ability to use the internet to attract more customers for a business. In addition to many of the skills I included above, internet marketing can also include:

    • Ad creation
    • Digital content creation
    • Graphic design
    • Blogging
    • Podcasting
    • Online market research
  • Video Marketing
  • and more

3. Copywriting

Copywriting is the skill of selling thru words. It includes buyer psychology, persuasive writing, and sales. Copywriters are valuable to the market because a highly skilled copywriter can create a sales letter or advertisement copy that can generate very high returns.

4. Public Speaking

Public speaking enables you to get a message across to many people at once. A good public speaker can help to evoke positive change and action within a crowd, and many companies are willing to pay speakers to influence their organizations in that way.

5. Sales

Sales and negative manipulation gets confused all too often. Sales should be about influencing people to achieve their goals by connecting them to products and services that would help. Once you get good at connecting ideal buyers with a solution they want, this can largely catapult your success.

6. Consulting

We are social beings, and most people need accountability to achieve their goals. Whether they’re trying to lose weight, stop smoking, build a business, teach their kids to read, or fix their marriage, there’s so many challenges people face, and it’s difficult to navigate them alone. As a consultant, you can help people to solve problems in a 1-on-1 setting, group setting, or even thru courses.

7. Entertainment

If you’re a good singer, actor, artist, musician, or comedian, and you can couple that with a captivating performance, people will pay you for that. Entertainers can be paid very well if they know how to attract attention and satisfy those who give it.

8. Investinghigh income skills | investing

Technology innovators have brought us amazing advancements including the internet, the search engines, social media, e-commerce, and so much more! People who can advance technology that’s currently out, or create new options can also find opportunities to earn very good incomes.

10. Software Development

Software is growing in capabilities. I curretly serves to make many things more efficient: from managing projects to keeping track of income and expenses. There’s lot of opporunity to deveop software that can improve efficiency and make life easier for people, and when you do, there is great income potential for you.

11. Web Development

The internet is growing massively: up to 40% in come countries! Despite the growth, there aren’t as many people that know how to customize the internet for various functions. Web developers help to create and customize the internet for various uses, so businesses can conduct their functions online similar (or even better) than they would offline. If you learn coding or website design well enough you can enable businesses to operate in the market online, there’s lots of high income opportunities you’ll find.

12. Mastering a Trade

There are high income trades like:

  • HVAC
  • Electrician
  • Plumber
  • Handyman

  • Property Manager
  • Real Estate Agent
  • Seamstress
  • Blogger
  • Youtuber
  • and so many more!

These trades offer high demand services to the market, and have a wide pool of people who would be willing to pay you well for what you do.

13. Teaching a Trade

high income skills | teachingOnce you’ve mastered a trade, you can consider teaching it. There are likely going to hr people who will want to transition or learn what you do. Teaching a trade can be done in a consulting-style setup or you can teach by creating courses.

14. Leadership

Leading is the ability to influence others. You can lead people you know and those you don’t know, but those who have a larger circle of influence can find ways to monetize that by creating products or services that help those following them to achieve their goals. In that way, leadership can be its own high income skill.

15. Management

Management is the ability to provide continuity, to track resources, and to provide guidance that upholds a standard. Those that can help with management include:

A very good list and I believe you hit on the key to a high income having a skill or skill set that is in high demand but short on supply. I believe when people start to realize what this means then they will look in the right places to obtain these skills. Wealthy Affiliate is a good place to start. I am not familiar with Udemy but I’m going to check it out.

    1. Tiffany Denise

Yes, economics is important in the market, and if you’re considering a high income school studying whether there’s a demand and a congruent supply could open up many great earning opportunities. Definitely check out Udemy. It’s a great place to learn high income skills, and many of the courses are very modestly priced.

    Hi Tiffany

What I really like about this list, it’s that most of the skills doesn’t really require a diploma to back them up. But the result you get from applying your skills, will help you Improve your revenue and get business. I mean, if I can show a proof of my previous work and a testimony of my clients. I will be able to acquire new clients fast. And my satisfied clients will bring me more business too.

And wealthy affiliate is the best place to learn these skills. I have learned to become a serial online entrepreneur and a affiliate marketer. Thanks to wealthy affiliate, their training is the best in the industry.

    Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your kind words. I agree that these skills are sold by results and proof. If you can get results, then many people will pay you without regard for a degree or diploma. I love Wealthy Affiliate as well. It serves as a great place to learn internet marketing and lead generation. For the other skills, I recommend Udemy. Thanks for leaving your opinions on this.

    Hi Tiffany!

Again a very useful, informative and helpful article of yours!

It touches the very actual and important topic of employment, job security, decent income, and other hot issues. Globalization is taken its toll. The new economic revolution is in its full swing. People are adapting to it with more or less success. No one is secure anymore.

Knowing how to compete with the competition and “swim in this sea of jobs opportunity online, and offline” is a must today to survive and to find your “place under the sun” these days.

On the other hand, globalization and new technologies made it possible for many people to succeed and to enhance their skills and knowledge in a way and time that was never possible and imaginable before.

What brings the future? We shall see … For now … when the “big wide world” becomes as a “small village” thanks to the technological revolution and globalization processes, the way out of this situation is to adapt, be flexible, learn and enhance skills and try to monetize as best as you can.

Thanks a lot for your wonderful article, I will bookmark it, and moreover, print it.

Wish you a lot of success,
    Best regards,

    1. Tiffany Denise

Thanks Igor! You brought up alot of great points. Globalization is huglely influencing the job market. I’m with you, we’ll have to sit back and enjoy the ride as the workforce continues to evolve!

  4. Tiffany Denise

This is a very helpful post, thank you. Without college is even better because often times the value of college is skewed. I agree with you that the workforce is changing. I like your Sam Walton quote, so true and humbling. Can you make $120,000 a year as an Uber driver? Haha. The Pew Research numbers are pretty sobering. Your list of high income skills is pretty solid and I really like your references to Wealthy Affiliate and Udemy. Wealthy Affiliate is a great platform and a great community. Honestly I don’t know a whole lot about Udemy so I will be checking it out further through your post here. Thank you again and well done!

    1. Tiffany Denise

I’m glad the post was helpful Pentrental! The quote from Forbes is pretty funny, isn’t it. Haha. I think it may be possible, but it’s probably an anomaly. It’s an interesting thought though. Definitely check out Udemy. They have great courses there.

    Hey Tiffany,

This is an informative and useful article I must say. I was looking for these kind of article on the internet for a long time as I am interested in making money online. And the first and foremost rule to get opportunities on that is to gain skills that will help us to be more productive. I have heard about Dan Lok before and it’s great to have his consultant on income skills. After reading your article I have come to know many things. I like the point of internet marketing as there is so demand of this. Moroever you have suggested Wealthy Affliate to learn these skills which I think is a great suggestion even I like the training programs of Wealthy Affliate. I will keep all of your tips in mind.

Thank you for sharing so much informations.

    1. Tiffany Denise

There’s a good side and a bad side with having so much access to information nowadays. In theory, it’s easier to find things, but when you execute, you find out there’s lots to sort thru. Thanks for sharing your experience with Wealthy Affiliate. I’m glad to hear you’ve had a great experience there as well.

  6. Tiffany Denise

It’s funny that you mentioned Dan Lok, I almost signed up for his high ticket selling course. But, just like the same said it is a high ticket selling so his course was too expensive and I found another platform instead. I really did enjoy his talk on TEDxTALK though. I really do think that education is really important to get in the game of making high income. AS we have seen with those who stopped learning, they stopped making money as well. Thank you for the list of what I can do to earn more money. I will talk a look at the Udemy course like you suggested. Cheers!

    1. Tiffany Denise

Dan Lok is a great leader to watch for his courses and for the other content he’s put out there. His positioning in the market with the pricing definitely makes him unreachable for many people, but these programs I’ve mentioned are great alternatives.

Great article for those who want to establish an online business platform and work independently. I already a  member of a wealthy affiliate and becoming familiar with this. So far it sounds like a good platform for learning and earning.  I didn’t know about Udemy, thanks for introducing me with this site. If someone has the intention to work independently online and established their own business they can choose any of these two sites and by acquiring these 15 skills they become successful.  Thanks again for the article.

    1. Tiffany Denise

You’re welcome Fahim! These skills are also equally applicable in the offline world. If the skills are stacked, then it can work even better. For example, you can stack real estate investing with lead generation, or plumbing with digital course creation, but they can each stand alone also.

    Hello, Tiffany.

As a copywriter and digital marketer, I must say, high income skills are a saving grace for some of us.

It couldn’t have been written any better than you have done, and anyone looking to grow or start their journey must read what you’ve written through and take action on them.

I started rendering my service on Fiverr, before expanding my website and scaled my business.

High income skills have saved me -and it can save a lot more.

Thanks for opening my eyes to even more possibilities.

    1. Tiffany Denise

Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree, high income skills can add much more stability to your life because you’re in demand whether you have a job or not.
