It’s likely that if you’re considering Kartra, you’re an entrepreneur or marketer. You’ve probably heard of email marketing solutions, landing page software, membership software, helpdesk software, and affiliate management solutions. Not with Kartra. Instead, you can have all of your lead conversion tools in one, but does that make Kartra the right sales automation suite for you? Many companies have attempted to create an all-in-one solution and failed. Will Kartra be different? In this Kartra review, I will tell you:

What is Kartra? An Overview
To start and run an online business, often times, you run into a mashup of various software. You don’t sell like offline businesses do, so you have to use software to compensate and offer a comparable experience than what’s offered offline–that’s where email marketing, sales funnel, webinars, and other automation tools come in.
Kartra is a combination of tools that serves as an:
- Email marketing campaign platform
- Marketing automation platform (letting you build and automate your sales funnels)
- Marketing page builders (landing pages, squeeze pages, sales pages, thank you pages, product launch pages, checkout pages, video sales letter pages, and more)
- Membership portal builders
- Shopping carts
- Online form builders
- Split testing and link tracking software
- Calendar and appointment scheduling software
- Helpdesk ticketing systems, including live chat
- Video hosting (with advanced marketing features)
- Affiliate management system
- Campaign analytics platform
- Custom programming to integrate your various marketing software platforms — Kartra seamlessly integrates all of the above already
- Graphic designers — Kartra’s professional, stunning templates designed to convert — for pages, emails, forms, and more — take care of that for you
Rather than having several subscriptions and different logins for all of your marketing tools, you can have Kartra and get everything in one.
The Kartra Team
I mentioned previously that other software has claimed to provide “all-in-one solutions”, but has fallen flat. As a result, it’s important to know whose behind these tools, and whether they’ll be around long enough that it makes sense to use the software in your business.
Kartra was founded by the team at Genesis Digital: CEO, Andy Jenkins, CTO, Hector Yague and CRO, AJ Roberts. Genesis Digital is the same team that founded WebinarJam, a leading webinar solution, and Everwebinar, a leading webinar automation solution. Now, they’ve teamed up with Frank Kern, a world-reknowned advertising expert, and they’re offering the most-needed software solutions for sales conversions.
How Does Kartra Work?
As an all-in-one sales automation software, Kartra works by enabling you one login for your marketing automation tools.
You can send emails, set up automated email sequences, and segment your audience based on their actions and interests.
Tagging and Segmenting
Email marketing experts have identified that people don’t want to receive emails that aren’t relevant to them. When you don’t have tagging and segmenting capabilities, it’s possible to email messages without knowing what’s relevant to those who are subscribed to you. Kartra doesn’t only have email marketing, but they have advanced tagging and segmentation built-in.
Customized Email Communication
By using the tagging and segmenting features, you can customize the experience for your subscribers. Based on their activity and engagement with your messages, you can send them the most relevant content and offers.
Landing Pages and Sales Pages
If you’ve watched very successful online businesses, you’ll notice they may use content to attract potential customers, and they use landing pages and sales pages to display their most engaging content, and finalize the buying decision. With Kartra, you can make landing pages and sales pages quickly and easily.
Templates and Drag-and-Drop Builder
Included with your membership, you’ll get 500+ templates and a drag-and-drop page builder. They have a team of professional designers that have created the templates. You can use them as a control, and customize them for your uses.
Upsell and Downsell Functionality
Have you seen how McDonald’s (or your favorite fast food restaurant) will take your food order, then ask, “would you like fries, a drink, or a cookie with that?”–those are upsells. When a potential customer is trying to accomplish a goal and you have a relevant product pair that you could offer, wouldn’t it be nice to present the alternative offer when they’re on the brink of making the decision?
With Kartra, you can offer relevant upsells and downsells to your potential customers–this can improve your sales conversions online.
Improved Sales Conversions than Solely Using Content Management Solutions
Many content management solutions can work great for blogging and content marketing, but when you get to the point where you want lots of e-commerce funtionality, then they fall short on some of the features–that’s where page builders or sales automation software can help. With Kartra, it’s built with e-commerce in mind. It’s not a blogging platform or lead generation platform, but it can help with converting traffic into buyers.
In order to sell products or services online, you have to have checkout pages and integrations with a payment processor–Kartra takes care of that. They’ve created a user-friendly checkout experience, so you won’t need another shopping cart tool.
Membership sites help with community building, can help to deliver content in a secure area, and can help bring in residual income. Kartra has included the functionality, so you can create membership areas. You can set up recurring payments, a one-time fee, and lots of other pricing structures.
Added to everything else, Kartra helps you to manage affiliates, so you can get help with promoting your products and services. By recruiting affiliates, you can have a sales team promoting you, and you only pay for conversions.
Youtube is an amazing platform, but many website owners have noticed that visitors will bounce away from your content to Youtube, and you won’t want that happening for your premium content. With Kartra, you’ll have video hosting built in.
With businesses (online or offline), it can get cumbersome to track where each customer is in your sales funnel or where they are in the customer fulfillment process. Then, when someone needs help, it can be very easy to forget, or to overlook someone–that’s where help desk software comes in. It enables you to keep better track of your projects, your customers, and to serve them better.
Have you ever tried to schedule an appointment online? You send a message saying “send me two or three times that work for you”, then they’ll send times that don’t work, and you’ll keep messaging back-and-forth to schedule one appointment. It can be very inefficient. Instead, it’s much quicker to send a calendar link and to schedule appointments using software. Kartra has built in a calendar and appointment scheduling system into their platform.
Kartra knows that half the battle of winning online is in education. There are many course creators charging more than the cost of the software suite for training alone. Kartra’s included training by Frank Kern and others in their membership. Kern is a highly sought after consultant. In fact, Grant Cardone, Tony Robbins, and other industry leaders turn to him for advertising advice, so including his Masterclass is a great addition.
How Do I Get Started with Kartra?
To get started with Kartra, you have to visit their website, choose the plan that suits you best, and checkout. Once you check out, you’ll have immediate access to the platform. You can begin creating your sales funnel right away.
Who is Kartra For?
Kartra is best for:
- Website owners who need help automating their online sales
- Those who feel like they’re getting low conversion rates for their digital products
- Those who want to sell digital products, but don’t have an e-commerce solution
- Those who need landing pages, email marketing, help desk software, and more
- Those who are looking for an alternative to software options like Clickfunnels or Kajabi
Kartra Tools & Training
One great perk about Kartra is the training. They’ve included training by Frank Kern and others to help you learn how to be successful using Kartra online. They call the training “the Kartraverse”.
Kartra offers 24/7/365 customer support via live chat and support ticket. If you need help, you can chat with someone to get help resolving your issue or you can put in a ticket.
What Does Kartra Do Well
- Kartra combines the features of several pieces of software into one
- They enable their users to eliminate piecing together several tools, and instead, you can use one platform
- They offer training by Frank Kerns and other reputable trainers with their software
- They host live Q&A weekly
- The software is easy to use and has proven to improve sales conversion rates for its users
- It’s great for sales funnels and split testing
What Doesn’t Kartra Do Well
- It’s a new software so there will require improvement
- There are glitches and kinks that need to be worked out
- It’s not comparable pricing with normal startup online business tools (hosting, domain registration, and email marketing). It’s priced more for intermediate to advanced businesses ($2k+ in revenue).
Kartra Review Roundup
I went around and read positive and negative Kartra reviews from places like G2Crowd, Capterra, and other 3rd party sites. Based on their reviews, I’ve been able to find a consensus of what users think about the software.
Common Positive Feedback
- It’s a better value than Clickfunnels
- It’s easy to use
- The customer support is very helpful
- You can eliminate many tools and use just this one
Common Negative Feedback
- Adding elements or moving things around in the email editor makes it freeze and reload
- It aims to replace email marketing platforms like Convertkit, ActiveCampaign, and Getresponse, but it’s not as good in the email marketing platform
- Some parts of Kartra are really good and some are okay
- You may still use other software in addition to Kartra
Most Helpful Positive Kartra Review
By using Kartra you can replace all of the following:
- Domain hosting provider
- Email host provider
- Email Marketing platforms (emails, tagging, listing and automations)
- Checkout Platforms
- Membership Platforms
Basically, unless you need to get really fancy, you can use Kartra for all of these things mentioned above.
This is why the claim to be an all-in-one solution.
(And they actually are).
Most Helpful Negative Kartra Review
Sometimes pages can look a little off on mobile. Alignment can be just slightly off from what you’d expect to see. Some page builders are coming out with fancy dividers between sections. Kartra has not yet implemented this.
Kartra Affiliate Program
Kartra has two components that would be ideal for affiliate marketers: their in-house affiliate program and their Marketplace. With their in-house affiliate program, you can earn 40% lifetime recurring commissions for referring others to use Kartra.
Thru their Marketplace, you can see courses and memberships sold by Kartra users and become an affiliate. The commissions can range: some are flat rate, some are percentages, and they each have varying sale prices.
Both, the marketplace and the Kartra affiliate program can add additional revenue to your business.
Kartra has several different pricing plans. They price based on how many leads you plan to nurture with the platform, how many emails you plan to send, and have features that differ between their plans. They offer a 14-day trial for $1, then you’d start paying for the subscription.
With the basic plan, you would pay $99/mo and you’d be able to have up to 2500 contacts, 15,000 emails, 100 pages created, 20 total products, 2 helpdesk portals, 1 custom domain, 20 dynamic follow-up sequences, 50 GB bandwidth, unlimited pageviews, 100 total automations, and 2 membership sites. Other plans increase the amount of features you have. They offer the Starter, Silver, and Gold plans.
My Final Opinion of Kartra
Overall, Kartra is a good software suite. It offers a lot of features into one plan, so if you know you don’t like having several subscriptions, and you’d prefer one, then I think Kartra could be worth looking at.
I don’t think Kartra replaces content management systems like WordPress. It’s not a blogging platform, so it would be difficult to use Kartra to attract customers using the search engine optimization strategy and ranking on Google. WordPress would be the best option for the SEO strategy. Kartra would likely perform best for people who use Youtube or paid ads as their primary source of traffic.
Kartra may also be expensive for businesses who aren’t generating much traffic or revenue yet. I wouldn’t recommend it for companies who can’t keep their operating expenses (excluding payroll and only including tools, equipment, and cost of goods) to less than 50% (with the Kartra subscription included). Instead, I’d recommend companies whose revenue isn’t suitable for an investment in software tools like Kartra to use WordPress and take a look at the alternatives listed below to learn how to get started with that.
In my opinion, Kartra is more of a subscription that you’d upgrade to once you’re generating revenue and able to expend more cash to improve sales conversions. If you’re generating sufficient revenue and you want to give Kartra a try as an option to increase your sales conversions, I think it would be something worth a try.
