Who is Sam Ovens?
Sam Ovens grew up in New Zealand to a middle-class family. He was taught to pursue the corporate professional path: go to school, graduate, and get a job. He said when he got a job at Vodafone that was inside of an air-conditioned building, he became the family “success story”. He had no expectation to achieve more than he had: from himself or his family.
Then, things changed…
He had a girlfriend who invited him to a friend’s house. This “friend” was worth $500 million dollars and the house was a privately owned island. He saw the freedom of choice that wealth could afford for the first time, and he was told the “friend” was an entrepreneur.
After his life-changing visit with the “friend”, Sam decided to quit his job, move in with his parents, and start a business. His first two businesses failed and left him in $30,000 of debt, but he decided to give entrepreneurship another try. He learned major lessons from his first two business failures, and decided to prove the concept for the third business using the minimum viable funnel method.
The business was called SnapInspect and the idea was to create an app that helped with property inspection. Sam called several property managers to verify the demand for what he was creating before investing alot of capital–this also ensured he had customers once the software was created.
He built and sold websites in order to raise the money to build SnapInspect. Over time, he realized his digital consultancy was earning more money with less overhead costs, and business owners wanted services performed and advice on getting customers. He offered 1-on-1 consulting and group coaching, but once he realized the demand was larger than what he could provide thru 1-on-1 or group coaching, he launched Consulting.com and he created his first course: Coaching Accelerator.
What is Consulting.com? An Overview
Sam Ovens founded Consulting.com in 2012 in his parent’s garage. Since, he started, the company has evolved from offering 1-on-1 and group coaching to a complete e-learing platform that’s had over 20,000 students, two offices, and 35 employees. From the 20,000+ students, 26 millionaires attribute their success to Sam’s program along with 459 6-figure earners, and 4,207 jobs quit.
How Do Sam Oven’s Programs Work?
Sam Ovens offers three programs thru Consulting.com: Consulting Accelerator, Uplevel Consulting, and Quantum Mastermind. Each of them teach students how to run a consulting business, but there are different levels of instruction and support from Sam and his team. Let’s break it down…
Consulting Accelerator was designed to help startup entrepreneurs to create their consulting company. It’s a 6-week program that teaches you how to pick a niche, identify a market problem, create a solution, market and sell effectively, and generate a 6-figure profit.
With Sam’s Uplevel Consulting program, he teaches you how to scale the business up to a 7 figure business. He shows you how to productize your services, automate your lead generation and lead conversion, automate service delivery, and hire and manage.
The Quantum Mastermind is Sam Ovens highest tier of coursework. He teaches you over 12 months how to scale your business to 8-figures. The course is online and in-person, and you learn how to become #1 in your market by hiring A-team players, systemizing everything, setting a new standard, and staying focused.
How Do I Get Started with Sam Ovens?
To get started with Sam Oven’s Consulting Accelerator, you’d set up your 14-day free trial account, then decide if you want to continue after the trial is over. If you want to get started with the Uplevel Consulting or Quantum Mastermind, you attend a demo, then get on a live call with someone from Sam’s team.
Who are Sam Ovens’ Programs For?
Each of Sam’s programs is for a different target audience.
The Consulting Accelerator is for startup entrepreneurs who have the desire to start a consulting company, but haven’t started. This program is supposed to help entrepreneurs get to 6-figures in annual revenue.
The Uplevel Consulting program is for entrepreneurs who have already started their consulting company, who earn money, and who want to scale up to 7-figures of annual revenue.
The Quantum Mastermind is for experts. Students in the Quantum mastermind should have already started their business and scaled it to 6-figures. The Quantum mastermind is for those who want to scale up from 6 or 7-figures to 8-figures.
Sam Oven’s Consulting.com Support
At Consulting.com, they offer 24/7 support to their students via email and in their private Facebook group. If you have questions or concerns, they have extended their assistance, however, there are mixed reviews about the responsiveness of the support. Customer complaints suggest some customers have had trouble getting responses from customer support.
What Does Sam Ovens Do Well
- He doesn’t use alot of charisma or persuasion tactics
- He tells you what each program is for and lets you decide if it’s what you want
- He has over 400 videos on Youtube that you can watch to get a feel for his teaching style and beliefs
- He gives demos or a free trial, so you can see what you’re getting before signing up
- He has curriculum options that help you develop personally and professionally as an entrepreneur
What Doesn’t Sam Ovens Do Well
- He’s not entertaining or funny, so don’t expect to get content that’s highly animated or engaging in that way
- He doesn’t teach you the high-paying skills to sell in your consultancy–You’d already have to have a high-paying skill to apply to his program, or you’d have to learn somewhere else
- He doesn’t teach many methods of traffic generation online. His main focus in traffic generation is on Facebook ads.
- He teaches you to monetize your business with services and products of your own, but he doesn’t teach you about how you can leverage the power of referrals as an additional stream of revenue. Many consulting companies earn largely from working with other brands and collaborating.
- The pricing isn’t transparent
- Customer complaints suggest it’s difficult to get a refund if you have an emergency life situation or if you decide you don’t like the program after paying money
Sam Ovens Review Roundup
Sam Ovens has several reviews: on his website and on third-party sites. This is a compilation of what I saw: both good and bad.
Consulting.com Reviews and Results
Sam has thousands of reviews and video case studies (including one by Dan Henry) explaining how students have been able to get success with his program.
In addition to the reviews on his website, you’ll see students sharing their experiences on sites like Quora, and I’ve found nothing but positive comments there.
Unfortunately, the Better Business Bureau doesn’t have such a good image of Sam Ovens as other sites. Instead, there were 16 complaints there. Most of the complaints were from people who believed in a promise that they’d get their first customer in 30 days, who wanted refunds, and had trouble solving their billing issues.
Common Positive Feedback
- Sam Ovens is the real deal
- I was able to scale my company as a result of Sam Oven’s training
- Sam’s training helped me in many areas of my life
Common Negative Feedback
- The training is too expensive
- I had life circumstances come up where I needed to get out of the training, and I had a difficult time forfeiting the billing
- I requested a refund, was told I could get one, and had trouble getting my money back
- He gave alot of promises I believed, but the program didn’t work out for me that way
Most Helpful Positive Sam Oven’s Review
There were quite a few things that happened during the course of Sam’s program. The first thing is, his mindset work is amazing. That is as valuable as the course itself, if not more. It just opened me up to a much bigger vision of what was possible and got me to start thinking a lot bigger. Also, the whole digital marketing community really opened me up to a lot of ideas for how to expand our offerings. As a result of that, we are also able to put together much larger robust packages that can better serve our clients and get them results. What happened, really just only a couple months into the program, I closed a $10,000 sale, then another. Last month, we closed a $20,000 marketing contract. In addition to that, closed several other contracts and had our highest revenue month yet. We’re positioned to close a six figure contract. Thank you so much, Sam. Awesome course. Highly recommend. If you can do it, go for it.

Most Helpful Negative Sam Oven’s Review
I purchased the Consulting Accelerator by Sam Ovens on December, ****, 2016, and a few hours after purchase, I requested a refund due to an emergency situation. After 8 days of no response, I submitted another E-mail, but to no avail. Another 8 days go by, and I have not been acknowledged ONCE by customer support! I’ve been patient, but, half a month??? They provide no other means of contacting for support — not even a phone number. What are the customers to do if they’re in real need of assistance? You’re not allowed to post about the issue in their private Facebook group! Private message an authority in the group, and they’re not interested in helping, even if they’re all you can reach! It’s not just me, here. There are many others in the same basket — people who didn’t find the material applicable in their life, were unsatisfied, etc… The issue everyone is having is the dishonesty regarding the refund. The Refund Policy is not clearly stated in the sales copy, or the recorded sales webinar. Sam Ovens confuses the viewer, that it is a *42 day guarantee*, and not a 30; what he IS saying, is that ‘you will get a client within 42 days’, but that doesn’t translate to people, especially when you’re playing with their emotions during your sales pitch! Why does he even mention ’42 days’ anywhere near the refund? He’s a smart guy… he’s made hundreds of millions afterall. Not only that, but it’s not stated that you must watch, go over & work on sheets for weeks 1 through 3 of the program. So EVEN IF it’s not in your heart to do it, you MUST. But if you DO, and you send in the worksheets, will they respond in time before your 30 days are up? He states he’ll toss in $100 for ‘wasting your time’. You won’t see any reviews or reports stating that they ever got the $100. The customer is not in the best interest of this company, or the individual running it. I feel mistreated as a customer, and I feel that my investment is of no value or meaning to the company.
The complaint has since been reported to the BBB as being resolved, and the refund was issued.
Sam Oven’s Programs Pricing
The pricing isn’t transparent for any of Sam Oven’s programs. Instead, you have to go further into the sales funnel than what I did in order to find out what the prices are.
My Final Opinion of Sam Oven’s
I haven’t personally bought Sam Oven’s program, however, after reviewing several customer reviews and trying the free trial, I still think it’s a legitimate program. He offers lots of value on his Youtube channel, and many of his students appear to be very happy with the results of the program.
I think he’s identified some knowledge that people are looking for, and compiled everything in an understandable way because thousands of students attribute him with being able to quit their jobs, hundreds have gotten to 6-figures, and dozens have gotten to 7-figures. Unfortunately, there are some people who haven’t been happy with the course, and who have had a difficult time rectifying that.
I think it’s important to focus on the skills he’ll be teaching, inventory the skills you currently have, identify whether the he’s teaching what you’ll need to learn, determind whether you’ll be able to glean from his teaching style, and make the personal decision about whether this program is a good fit for you. I’m a proponent of buying courses that:
- Are within your financial means
- Have proof of concept
- And, that you’re confident will yield you a return on your investment
If you feel that Sam Oven’s course checks all the boxes, then give it a try.
If you read thru the review and you’re not quite convinced Sam Oven’s courses are a good fit for you, then I’ve compiled these alternatives to give you some other options. If looking to start a digital marketing agency, I have a list of top 4 recommended courses to learn how to run a digital marketing agency here. If you want to stick with building a consulting company, it’s going to be important that you:
- Self evaluate
- Prioritize the business
- Choose your niche
- and set out your gameplan to build the business.
Alternatives According to Google Trends
As you can see in the Google Trends, Sam started his business in 2012, but according to the trends, it looks like his name became a more popular search phrase in 2016. Alternatively, there is another company that’s had over 1.4+ million students, has enabled several people to quit their jobs, has been attributed as the curriculum that built several 6-figure businesses, and has also been attributed by 7-figure earners as well.
Wealthy Affiliate is my #1 Recommendation
As you can see, Wealthy Affiliate has had a stable rate of interest over the last 5 years (as shown on the chart), and even beyond that. They were founded in 2005 by Kyle and Carson, and have grown to offer courses, a social media style networking platform, cloud hosting, live weekly training, and so much more.
They continue to add features that create a more engaged community and a better learning environment for entrepreneurs who want to grow businesses, and use the internet to get customers and sales. Here is a breakdown of what you get:
Wealthy Affiliate will teach you the high-paying skills of digital marketing, several traffic generation methods (Facebook ads and more), several monetization methods, and you’ll also have 24/7 support from the community and Wealthy Affiliate staff. This program could either serve as a standalone alternative or as a compliment to what you learn at Consulting.com, and you can try it out 100% free (without billing information).
Udemy also provides a variety of very good courses across several verticals. You can learn about time management and prioritization, digital marketing, coding, web design, project management, and so many other things! You can buy one course, or you can buy several to build out your professional skills. Check out what’s offered at Udemy here.
