If you’re looking for a thorough Start a Mom Blog review, you’re in the right place.

If you’re a mom and you’re considering starting a blog to help bring an income for your family, it’s likely you’d resonate with Suzi from Start a Mom Blog. She runs a website called StartaMomBlog.com where she’s documented her journey from $0 to more than $10,000/mo. Many moms find her inspiring because she has kids, she started her business as a stay-at-home-mom, she seems to have a pretty cool work-life balance (it looks like her kids are always close by), and she’s not afraid to show that it’s okay to be a mom while being a professional.

Who doesn’t want to be a mom and make $10,000+ per month with your kids close by? Most of us do (or at least we’d like the option)!

I remember when I was starting my business and trying to learn the blogging business from other bloggers, I would see single people, or married people without kids who were teaching their methods for how to start a blogging business, but I would always wonder, “How can I do it with young kids?”, “Will I be able to give enough time and effort during my kids’ naptimes?”, “How will I get others to understand so they’ll support me?”, and the list went on and on. So, when I first saw Suzi from Start a Mom blog, her story alone was encouraging because it made me feel that if she could start her blogging business with young kids, I could too.

But, is her story, her results, or even her students’ results enough to mean her course is the right option for YOU to learn the blogging business? That’s what we’ll decide in this review. My #1 goal with this review is to help YOU decide what’s best for YOU–not for me. So, I’m not an affiliate of Suzi’s and I make $0 directly from giving you my opinion of her course. If you decide it’s a good fit for you, great. If you decide it’s not, great. My goal is to help you and your family achieve the goal of making more money blogging (because it looks like that’s what you’re here to discover).

Just to be honest with you, I used to make the mistake of reading income reports and assuming those results could be mine if I simply followed what others were doing, and now I know, it’s a little more to it than that. You don’t necessarily get results with a course or method because:

  • Other people are doing it
  • Other people got results
  • Others are successful
  • Or, even because the instructor has a nice personality and will help you

There are more factors that you’ll have to put in place to have success with Start a Mom blog courses or anywhere else, and I want you to be able to make a good decision. If you’re here, it’s likely you came across Start a Mom Blog on Youtube or Pinterest, and you’re wondering whether it could be a good fit for you. In this Start a Mom Blog review, I will tell you:

  • What it is
  • How it works
  • Pros and Cons
  • What it does well and what it does not
  • What others are saying (good and bad)
  • My Recommendation
  • And, Alternatives (in case you want to do some comparison shopping)

What is Start a Mom Blog? An Overview

start a mom blog review

The Founder: Suzi Whitford

Suzi is an amazing and inspirational woman (in my opinion).

She studied industrial engineering (a male-dominated career field) and taught web design while in college. After graduating, she worked for multiple Fortune 100 companies including Walt Disney and General Electric teaching Lean Six Sigma (which is said to be a very challenging field of study).

She says she always loved learning about computers, but would have never guessed she’d become successful doing what she does now: blogging. Her blogging started in 2011 when she would write about her upcoming wedding to “the man of her dreams”.

(By the way, I love sweet love and marriage romance stories)

She married her husband (whose also an engineer) and they got pregnant with their first daughter. They decided she would stay home to raise their kids, and she went thru a transition that many of us (moms) do.

If you’ve ever worked in a corporate setting before, you know you feel responsible for a certain professional output, and transitioning to stay home may feel like you’re only responsible for nurturing. It can be a little disheartening if you don’t have a creative outlet and a way to re-affirm your importance to the community outside of home.

Suzi found her outlet in blogging. She blogged about breastfeeding, motherhood, recipes, and crafts, and she was able to conect with other women that way.

About Start a Mom Blog

Suzi started Start a Mom blog to share with other women how they can use their productive energy to blog online. She had a impactful story of how blogging mde her feel a sense of fulfillment, she believed her corporate background and natural inclinations would help her to break down the blogging competencies so women could understand it, and she found other women who were looking for what she was offering. As a result, Suzi has documented on her site that she’s been able to make more than $200,000 teaching other women to blog!

Kudos to her!

Here’s an introduction to Suzi:

How Does Start a Mom Blog Work?

Suzi has created several courses that explain the core competencies bloggers would require to make money online.

Core Competencies Required in Blogging

After reviewing dozens of other blogging courses and their curriculum, I’ve found that most entry-level blogging courses feel it’s important to know:

  • Content writing
  • Basic Graphic Design
  • Traffic Generation including SEO and Social media marketing (video marketing is growing also)
  • Mindset and realistic expectations
  • Basic WordPress Technical skills
  • and Website Monetization

Some courses offer more support than others. Some sell each core competency separately.

To get started with Start a Mom Blog, you’d want to:

1. Assess your current skill level

While it might be confusing for you (especially since this whole blogging career field is new), the current layout requires that you decide which concepts she has that you don’t currently know.  It’s most common for people to start with the Blog by Number course or eBook, but if you feel you already know those things, you might want to look into alternatives.

2. Purchase

To purchase the course, you’d enter basic name and email, then process the payment thru Paypal or by credit card.

3. Enter the Membership Area

Suzi hosts her courses on Teachable, so after your payment is processed, you’ll get instant access to her courses.

4. Take Action

Courses aren’t done once you stop watching the videos or reading the content. The most important part of taking any course is taking action. You’ll need to take the information Suzi gives you and carve out time to do the tasks.

What Doesn’t Start a Mom Blog Do Well

Based on student reviews:

  • I didn’t find a networking component built into the course

  • and, there aren’t any software tools included in the course like what’s available in other similar courses like my #1 recommended course for bloggers

Start a Mom Blog Review Roundup

Especially since I didn’t take this course myself, I wanted to give you all of the information from bloggers who have. I’ve compiled the pros and cons based on what all of the reviews and testimonials had to say.

Third Party Reviews

As you can see, there are quite a few bloggers who have written their own third party reviews of the course. After reading many of them, I found most of the reviewers were happy they bought the course and they felt they learned from it.

blog by number reviewI didn’t find many reviewers or testimonials that mentioned they had been able to get a full-time income with Blog by Number without supplementing elsewhere, so that’s something to consider. Many of the reviewers also took blogging courses like Elite Blog Academy or Lena Gott’s Pinterest Traffic course.

It’s pretty common that bloggers either fall into shiny object syndrome or they continue taking courses until one strategy “clicks”, so if you’re expecting this to be a one-stop-shop, I didn’t find alot of reviews or testimonials to support the idea that this course will do that for you. In this case, students could have bought other courses because they got distracted by someone else’s results, someone making hype about an alternative course, or some method that advertises it’s “quicker” or “better”. There are alot of distractions out there, so be careful!

Common Positive Feedback

  • This is a must have
  • I made my first dollars online because of this course
  • I created an eBook and got my first sales
  • I understand how to use email marketing now
  • I wouldn’t have been able to start making money without this course
  • My articles are ranking
  • I’ve gotten my pageviews up since taking the course
  • You should check out the course
  • I see others trying to learn the blogging business without taking courses and I’m light years ahead of them because of this course

Common Negative Feedback

  • I don’t like using PickMonkey, but Suzi teaches graphics using PickMonkey
  • I don’t like using Divi Theme, but Suzi uses Divi
  • The courses are expensive

Review 2:

If you’re a new blogger or someone thinking of starting soon, you really should check out Suzi Whitford’s Blog by Number course. Suzi is a former engineer familiar with lean six sigma and other project management techniques. Suzi is a mom to three little kids and is always working to help her audience. She started her blog, Start a Mom Blog a couple of years ago and has been earning an excellent income since. Suzi’s relaxed style is perfect for a blogging for beginners course. No pressure, just helpful lessons and techniques.

Most Helpful Negative Start a Mom Blog Review

The Blog by Number course really didn’t have any serious negative reviews. I wasn’t able to find anyone who said they took the course and saw no results, which is great for you if you’re considering this option. The most negative comment is really more of a preference. This student said:

Suzi uses PicMonkey for her images.  PicMonkey is great for adding overlays and editing photos, but I don’t always have time to edit my own images. It seems to take me a bit longer to navigate even though it is super simple.  Canva, to me, is a lot simpler to use than PicMonkey, but maybe that’s just because I have used Canva for so long and it takes me less than 5 minutes to create a pin or beautiful image. I would love to see Suzi give a class on Canva, though!

Start a Mom Blog Course Prices

Suzi has several courses ranging in price. Her flagship eBook is $11 and her Blog by Number course costs $97.
